Today is Sunday August 1 and I had hoped to meet the wife of a friend, Brandy, at UU today. She didn't make it. So, I hope she can make it next week as the service will include LOTS of POETRY! selections from "the mother of African American Journalism" Francis Harper Watkins http://www25.uua.org/uuhs/duub/articles/francesharper.html
Our minister Rev. Paul Britner has entitled it "Through A Different Lens". It sounds good.
Back to today.
"Gees Bend" a children's story for all ages read by the President of our UUFM board, Christine Freeman.
Next the poet and author spoke to us of the book below. She had driven down from Birmingham. She is involved with the Birmingham Arts Journal so see http://www.birminghamartsjournal.com. I might send them some of my photography!
Her recent book is
I'm going to give it to my daughter for her birthday coming up. She autographed it to her with "I hope you enjoy Ludelphia's story" and "Go your own way" which is perfect for my soon to be 25 year old daughter. The author and my daughter both live in Birmingham! cool .http://book-lovers-inc.blogspot.com/2010/03/all-ya-love-guest-post-on-fate-by-irene.html
But wait! There is more! She also is a poet and read from "Poems from the Big Table": 2007 Birmingham Copyright Churn Dash Press (probably has already been pirated). CREED was so good ............btw. I knew this would be a good service but never THAT good.
They pass the basket or share the plate every week. Today it would be donated to New Beginnings Resource Center.
I wish they could have paid employees receiving benefits under some kinda Obamaz New WPA umbrella fund and I would work there. I simply have to work and cannot volunteer any more than I already am like lots of folks today.
They introduced themselves first by stating they were retired educators who had something more they could do
than to wait to die or go play golf. ! That got my attention! They need volunteers, and funds as all organized projects need. Our minister is active with the INTERFAITH ALLIANCE and the principles of UU line up well ( Unitarian Universalist Principles ) with NEW BEGINNINGS Mission Statement that I wish had been put in ahead of time in the twos Yahoo Groups Mailing List we call UUMontgomery and Coffeehouse ( more political discussion and miscellaneous stuff should appear there).
Our website seems to be down for some odd maintenance reason. http://www.uumontgomery.org
So IMHO this is something that should be a national model if it isn't already..... here in Montgomery, Alabama.
Last stick of dynamite was totally unexpected. " Holy Mole'" next was a 'spot on' across the table talk which included: the U.S. role in genocide, state weakness, Canadian "Responsibility to Protect" and WAR CRIMES (no advanced announcement of it in the newsletter we get (http://www.groups.yahoo.com) WOW. What is trans-national terrorism? Definitely it is something to comprehend. What is non-violent peacekeeping? This was lead by someone
new that I had never met because I have not been attending for a while. After I saw his credentials in the yahoo group I could understand how he could be so knowledgeable. Check out his credentials: "Civ USAF AETC ACSC/DEI"
The genocide in Rwanda and the United Nations toothless to stop it under Clinton Administration, the brutality of "Failed States of Africa", Bosnia and Herzegovina http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bosnia_and_Herzegovina of the Serbs and Croats = mass violence.
So, what do I find about peacekeeping? Our church association site has eight pages of links about Peacekeeping <<<click that!
